This matinee length necklace celebrates the cobalt blue home of Frida Kahlo in Mexico City. The Elephant Ear leaves were often featured in her paintings. The reverse hand-pierced designs explore more of the artists' common themes and imagery (a Rhesus monkey, the Virgin Mary, an anatomical heart (Aztec reference), a skull (Aztec reference), scissors, an erupting volcano, a butterfly, Stalin, an unborn fetus, and Diego Rivera. The reverse of the brass center flower medallion exhibits Frida with flowers in her hair (symbol of fertility) and the cobalt blue and transparent beads represent the lace on her dresses. Several of her paintings explore her fascination with attire, contrasting European dress and the traditional Tehuana dress worn by Zapotec women.
