About the Collection
A Tribute to Frida Kahlo (06 July 1907 - 13 July 1954)
Frida Kahlo, Mexican painter, lived a life filled with crises of identity and existence. She painted what she saw and knew. Her 143 paintings included fifty-five self-portraits. She painted vibrant and daring imagery while exploring themes of identity, pain, and death. Her love of Mexican nature and artifacts were inherent in her work at a time when her country sought to define its own identity. Strong imagery, a mixture of realism and fantasy, vivid hues, and controversial subject matter define her style.
I am inspired by her bravery, the commitment to her heritage, her authentic validation of gender neutrality and her openness regarding female sexuality. She brought light to the matters of women boldly in her paintings as no painter had done before her. She opened doors for the creative expression of all women and courageously shared her experiences which women can identify with today.
This jewelry collection designed to pay tribute to Kahlo features vivid colors, bold shapes, a prominent focal point, and iconography common in her paintings. Kahlo was often photographed wearing large and colorful jewelry and bright colored clothing -both in life and art.
